Are you sick and tired of all the incompetent, scumbag IT companies in Houston? Yep, so am I. I've had my fill and then some.
Lets just start with expectaions and compensation. What planet are these people from anyways? They want a "network engineer" for 40k and under, and a whole list of "you must have/be/do" things attached as if they were in a position to be so picky... Oh please, most of the owners of these so-called IT companies couldn't engineer the oil filter into their beat up Camry, let alone anything resembling a network, and it shows when you see the clients they "serve." Oh yeah, and they want you to drive all over HELL every day in your personal vehicle for under 30 cents a mile too. Let me get this straight- they get to bill $120-150 for my time and I get to keep $20 of it? Oh yeah, thats really generous... NOT
Lets talk about the so-called "solutions" these crooks provide their clients. In all my travels I've never seen so many mickey mouse networks full of home edition XP, free AVG antivirus, celeron whitebox crap computers with non-raid "servers" running on event logs full of critical events, or other hodgepodge myriad of macintrash, linux, and other super cheap hair brained crap. I mean, who really cares about industry standards, or wasteful things like backups, redundancy, or proven security practices right? If its cheap and we can build it in our living room out of parts from old Pentium III's, who cares? As long as we sucker them into the DEAL. Cardinal rule of these places: sucker them in with the super cheap hardware so we can stick it to them with the labor... (you think I'm kidding right?)
Maybe I just have higher than gutter standards, but I have seriously never found a city with such a depressing IT market all around. The jobs pay half as much as even some of the more depressed areas of the nation, and the quality of workers is miserable in comparison. Its like everyone is just used to the level of mediocre service and choose to stay with these criminally incompetent companies out of fear that the next one will actually be worse. Truly, I've met business owners all over Houston that tell me that. They would seriously rather continue to be stolen from and ripped off by a familliar company instead of trying another.
Let's take a look at just a few ads currently posted here, and some of the past shall we? (actual company names changed to protect the guilty)
"Looking for an evangelical network engineer to tend our flock"
This company has posted enough times to make one wonder if they ran out of competent MCSE's faster than the Houston diocese ran out of alter boys. We've spoken a few times, and they seem pretty focused on prosperity for sure. Real caring folks they claim, just not to most strangers who aren't paying or producing. Much like most in the biz. They really don't stand out other than being super cheap. How odd that they clearly aren't courting the Jewish cleint base...
"Looking for a certified whizbang geek type"
This guy is REALLY strange in so many ways. Yep, met him, couldn't wait to run, run away. Offering a laughable 40k at the time. Shortly thereafter offering 60k. Then evidently lost a big client he couldn't serve with geek squad level help. Now looking at the 40k level again. But hey, he might give you a company car in lieu of 10k and all your weekend time. You think I'm kidding right?
"IT consultants wanted $40 an hour blah blah"
This queen called me one night after saying my resume was like a bright, heavenly light in his inbox. He proceeded to offer even more money and perks after rambling on and on and on ad nauseum about how wonderful his business was and how he'd been doing business "the Houston way for xx number of years" blah blah blah... Needless to say, his drunken delirium was more than his checkbook could cover and yet another FLAKE was uncovered. See his ads in the GIGs section now because unlike me, he's too cheap to pay $25 to post an ad for help. I'll say one thing; this fella was a prime example of the "Houston Way" of doing IT.
So why am I wasting $25 of my hard earned money to say all this? Because its true. Its pathetic and pitiful. You may have caught my similar ad before and responded with your own story of the Houston IT career black hole. I have hundreds of them. Your sacrifice was not in vain though. I've been methodically compiling your accounts of suffering and misery, making a list, checking it twice. Stay tuned. Coming very soon is the website Houston IT crooks don't want people to see. One with the detailed personal accounts of former employees used, abused and scorned. Naming names and proving claims. I'm also providing links to local assistance to legal counsel skilled in helping you overcome bogus non-compete/confidentiality contracts.
I will not be deterred. I will not falter. The truth will come to light, and those companies and individuals that cheated clients, stole from people and disrespected their employees will be mocked, ridiculed (and I'll enjoy it) for all to see. Go ahead, flag me, call me names, stun me with your laughable legal threats. I'm a big guy, and I've heard it all before. Unlike you, I buy websites offshore by the dozens and I don't have to pay an attorney.
Please write and tell me of your experiences if you wish to have them added to the listings. Only serious, credible accounts will be considered. We will not be fooled by crafty employee moles with guilty consciences. You may try, but won't discover our identities until the website goes live.
