Missing Jesus, Part 2 by Joey Kelly preached at Rock Springs Full Gospel Church, Lawrenceville, GA, on 9/27/2017 Luke 24 1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. a retelling of the empty tomb episode, from another perspective, slightly different details the variations demonstrate that the event actually happened... other "holy books" give one account only the founders' imperfections (Moses, Jacob, David, Peter, etc.) show the bible to be divinely given Matthew 1 1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John portray Jesus as king, servant, spirit-filled man, and God 13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. a furlong is an eighth of a mile, so Emmaus was 7-1/2 miles from Jerusalem, probably 2 or 3 hours away they didn't recognize Jesus, like the others 17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? 18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. their concept of Israel's redemption was the rise of a victorious king, not a suffering servant Genesis 49: Judah and Joseph both declared to be the tribe that Jesus was to be from the natural man can't conceive of what Jesus did for us, as these too demonstrate Peter's confession was inspired by the Holy Spirit, and today it's the same: illumination and revelation are necessary, a head knowlege won't do and will not save conversion/salvation (the born-again experience) is a supernatural event, not a religious thing 22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; 23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. 24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. they recounted the women's testimony, but still didn't understand, nor believe we must have revelation of Christ: neither our parents nor our church can bequeath salvation to us ...especially not our church: religion cannot save, period, end of sentence Peter and others are used to counter and disregard the testimony of the women the woman at the well used to bring the message to Samaria, as were these women of the resurrection 25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. 29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. Genesis 3 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. God still enjoys walking with and fellowshipping with His creation the "second Adam" fully dealt with the fall and restores us to communion with God wait until we get to heaven! it'll be so much better than it was in the garden John 15 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. Matthew 14 19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. Mark 14 22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. this was Jesus' way (and still is) a picture of the work of sanctification in the lives of Jesus disciples, including us today John 21 15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest (AGAPE) thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love (PHILEO) thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest (AGAPE) thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love (PHILEO) thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest (PHILEO) thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest (PHILEO) thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. Peter's three denials, much boasting, but later he could only say "I love Jesus like a brother" suffering is part of the gospel Luke 9 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. denial of self, not self-denial (rooted in the flesh) Acts 9 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. God told Ananias this about Saul (the apostle Paul) Jacob, Joseph, Moses, many others were broken 36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. Mark 6 45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people. 46 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray. 47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. 48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. 49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: 50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. same fear when seeing Jesus, and same reassurance Jesus is God, and they are seeing Him as God, and not the familiar view they once had we too are way to familiar with God, and lose sight of His holiness he would have passed them by... just as the 2 on the road to Emmaus, he wanted to keep on His way we're to get with the program and follow... bringing souls with us to heaven they are trying to get over the shock of God Himself appearing in their midst, but He wants to fellowship and break bread with us the Holy Spirit (another comforter) sent to us, that we could enjoy the company of Christ Matthew 18 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. 44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, again, our understanding and view of Christ must be of the scriptures 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. great, fantastic, Jesus rose from the dead... now go out and tell everyone you can the good news 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. Pentecost (and Passover) are about the harvest 50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. Jesus is coming back, occupy 'til He come
