You should have these colors when you're looking down at the top of the
connector with the end facing away from you where the little "blades" are
that punch into the insulation on the copper wires.
Most data sites use 568B wiring in my experience. To make a crossover
for connecting two PCs directly or two hubs/switched that lack uplink ports
make one end of the cable 568A and one end 568B. You'll see that that
crosses wires at positions 1,2,3 & 6 which are the only wires ethernet
uses.
If you buy store-bought cables, you'll see all sorts of goofy colors.
