[Nolug] MySQL link error

Hey, I'm trying to compile a program using MySQL
functions under Red Hat 7.2. I get several errors:
"undefined reference to mysql_real_connect", etc.
These functions are supposed to be in the library
libmysqlclient.a, which exists. My MySQL installation
tests O.K. I have tried to change the order of
library references in the makefile to no avail.
Anyone encountered this problem before? Any
suggestions?
