[Nolug] bi-directional sync between computers

I'm currently looking into synchronizing folders between my laptop and file server + desktop and file server, and I have few obstacles.
First I looked into rsync, but found unison instead, as rsync only seems to be unidirectional. I need bi-directional sync as I'm working on multiple computers.

The first problem with unison.....it is picky about the program versions, and currently fails due to that. I have not gotten to the second problem yet....

At this point, I'm not desperate to make installation from sources as it would most likely take copious amounts of time to solve the dependencies....

However, are there any other recommended bi-directional backup apps. which work over ssh with non-standard ports? GUI not necessary, but would not hurt.
