Politicians who underestimated Kat had to over-hype Gustav.
Trajectory, momentum and external effects are important in
determining whether I leave or not.
In this case, it was barreling NE towards Morgan City, and there was
a high pressure system moving in north of us, which worked to
inhibit a north/east turn.
Also, the expected strengthening didn't happen over the warm loop
current because dry air from Texas swooped down around and stabbed
into the eastern side of the storm. The made the western side of
the storm into the strong side.
That is compared to Kat, which headed due north on a doomsday track,
so I convinced my wife that we had to pack the van like we were
never coming back.
