Hi Joey.

I'm just a novice at FreeBSD and I haven't played with NetBSD at all, so that
that into consideration when reading my comments. :-)

Yes.

All of what you mentioned is available for FreeBSD (I don't know about NetBSD)
so you don't need to worry about running the linux version.

Yes, compiling source on the target FreeBSD box is the normal way to install
things - FreeBSD itself and ports.
