I haven't seen this announced on NOLUG yet, so let me invite you all to
the NOLA Hackathon that Wikimedia (my employer) is hosting in New
Orleans on October 14-16 at Launchpad NOLA.
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/NOLA_Hackathon
As Wikimedia's bugmeister, I'd like to meet with actual users and,
maybe, MediaWiki developers at the hack-a-thon.
At our last hack-a-thon, I met with a Hebrew-speaking Wikipedian and we
uncovered a real need for RTL support
(http://hexmode.com/2011/04/mediawiki-needs-rtl-developers/). Shortly
after that post, we had a developer come online and implement a lot of
the changes needed to support the RTL languages (mostly Hebrew, Arabic,
and Farsi).
Wikimedia developers will be there in force and itching to meet with
natives of the area who are experienced MediaWiki developers.
If you'd like to come, please sign up under "Attendees" on the wiki
page.
If you know of another regional mailing list (e.g. BRLUG, SMLUG) that
might be interested, let me know and I'll try to post the invitation
there. Better yet, if you're a member of one of those lists, please
pass along this invite!
Thanks!
Mark.
