Someone's forgotten (or is too young and was never taught) what complete
suckage was the USSR and Warsaw Pact were and how long it took many
state-owned PTTs to get service into people's houses. (It's why cell
phones became so popular so quickly in Europe, whereas ATT and smaller
companies thoroughly wired the country, so there was less need for cell
phones.)
