[Nolug] ubuntu 10.04 Internet Connection

I'm having trouble getting Internet connection on Ubuntu 10.04.
It can't get to websites nor can it do updates that are pending.
Known good: CAT5 cable, Cable Modem with COX.
These work with a Windows 7 computer.
On Ubuntu computer, I see Network and it is showing ETH0.
I made sure I don't have any static IP addresses.
What else can I check?
