when I type lsmod I get the following output.
root@bloch:/home/chris# lsmod

lsusb does give me quite a bit of info.
let me know if you want to see it

Also, ran into trouble using APT-get to upgrade Gnome, getting a message
which I can't replicate now. APT-get install gnome now says gnome at
newest version, but now ALSA is broken, specifically alsamixer, getting
this message

-- alsamixer
alsamixer: /usr/lib/libasound.so.2: no version information available
(required by alsamixer)
alsamixer: relocation error: alsamixer: symbol
snd_mixer_selem_is_enumerated, version ALSA_0.9 not defined in file
libasound.so.2 with link time reference

The alsa drivers are loaded, but I can't tell if it works because I
don't have access to alsa.

also still no cups access.
