Try opening the printer share on the XP machine to "Everyone" with "full"
access. If this works then you can cut back from "full" slowly and find
where the problem area is.

You should be able to right click the printer and go to the sharing
tab then you should be able to add more users or be able to select
which users to allow to share. use "Everyone" and then give full
access. I don't have a local printer to be able to setup as shared at
my disposal at the moment or I would give you more step by step answers.
