I ran this exact system (Inspiron 7500) but with 40GB drive.
everything worked perfectly including the winmodem. Ran debian
on it. Now it runs Gentoo.

Being a laptop, I'm not sure you can upgrade the graphics card
althugh there is/was a model with 15" 1600x1200 UXGA screen and
an nvidia card.
