OK, I really don't understand how block devices work. I have an
external CD burner, (1394), that works great through cdrecord. I can't
seem to mount the thing, though. I used to be able to, but after a
combination of unplugging and replugging the cord, compiling a new
kernel, and other random system modifications, I get this when trying to
mount

I had set all this up to work about a year ago, and I don't remember how
I did it, because I didn't understand what I did. So a few questions:

--How can the date be 1994...I built this system in 2002.
--How can I make sense of what is being used, and how, in the /dev
structure?
--Is there a set of instructions for NON-programmers that explains this?

TIA...A
