I unplugged my UPS and the computer immediately went out. None of the other devices except monitor and ethernet bridge for ADSL were on; LaserJet 3300 on same circuit but not UPS, on standby.
I found my warranty card for the UPS; I bought it in 9/97 and it has been in continuous use except a day or two when I moved, so it probably IS time for a new battery. The last time the power was off both computers were on and lasted about 10 min.

(I'm more sensitive to electro-magnetic fields than most people.)
You may want to test your UPS. Also, are all these devices on the same
electrical circut?
Possibly with a microwave? If they are on the same circut, a surge into a
dying UPS battery can cause a reverse surge that will cause a loss of power
to your UPS powered devices. This originating surge is commonly caused by
microwaves.
My suggestion (if possible) is to unplug the UPS from the outlet and run out
the battery. Recharge with no load, then with the max load test the battery
by unplugging the UPS from the outlet. If the monitor flickers or shuts off
you need to replace the battery.

went black for a split second, and my computer rebooted. I am assuming that
since the UPS kicks in to supplement low voltage, this must have been a
gigantic surge. I am worried about devices (and appliances!) not connected
through the UPS. Anyone else have this problem? I am in Algiers.
