Ok. What you don't say in your first post is what the IP addresses are
on your W98 and linux boxes. For them to connect to a router running on
the local LAN at 192.168.254.254 they have to be on the same local
subnet. If they addresses are assigned via DHCP --presumably from your
speadstream router -- thinks will work automatically as they do on the
W98 box. Your linux box will need to be set up to automtically pull its
network setting via DHCP or be setup statically with an address on the
192.168.254.0 255.255.255.0 network. Based on what you've posted thus
far, I think that's why you can't reach the router's web interface from
your linux box.
