I does have a few nicer features, however... support for dual-channel DDR400 and up being the nicest. A similar K7 CPU/board that runs at 400Mhz FSB would cost about the same as a K8, and have less features and upgradability. If you're going cheap, K7 is the best bang/$. If you're going top-end K7, you might as well get a K8 and have the option of upgrading it later. Just my opinion. Plus, running 64-bit Fedora looks sexy on a resume... can't vouch for its effectiveness as a pick-up line, though. "Hey, baby, I'm running Linux on an AMD64!"
