Until about 4 p.m. today, only one system was completely down. Fans turned
but no POST. Tried everything on MSI website and even moving the m/b to the
other case didn't help.
With the other system, I have been having hd problems. They would dual
boot with the w2k disc (only 3.2G) for a few days, then quit. At least two
of them gave a file system error message and invited me to press Ctrl-D or
enter root password. The former only resulted in the same thing. The latter
led to a disk check that never ended, and this on at least two hds, some
new. Could w2k be destroying the MBR on the Linux hd even though Linux is on
the master, w2k on the slave? It has happened so many times that I am
reluctant to try dual with w2k again.
The w2k disc still works but has only 95M free. When I tried to re-test
another hd, no fans, no POST. The power supply cable seemed iffy so I
swapped ps and still no fans or post, even with everything else
disconnected. I didn't touch the power cables except the one to the hd just
before the failure.
I am having to use the old OmniBook 800CT, P133, balky keyboard, and
faulty built-in mouse, and am getting tired of it! Beides, it's w95.
