That's quite possible, but often difficult, with Linux. You need a midi
controller, but finding drivers and getting things to work right can take a
bit of work.

I use M-Audio (I've got a Fast Track USB, Fast Track Ultra, and a Midisport),
but my dekstop is AMD-64, and the Midisport needs to load firmware when it
starts up, which requires fxload IIRC, which of course isn't available except
for x68 and won't compile on my box. The Fast Track Ultra works without
loading such firmware, but I can't get it to reliably do midi or audio. Sigh.

I think if could afford it, I'd get a Mac Mini and Logic Studio. Since I'm
currently poor, I may be forced to use That Other Operating System instead,
but latency is reported to border on the unacceptable.

Synths for Linux? I'm just starting to look into those.

Straw poll... besides me and Jeremy, who else plays with midi and/or sound
recording? I smell a meeting topic here, and maybe even the beginnings of a
band...
