Stay away from Asterisk if you aren't already invested in it.
Use Freeswitch. If anyone here ever listens to me about anything (I
know .. dramatic, right?)
Freeswitch > Asterisk for ANYTHING you want to do (Except trunking
with a provider who ignores rfc and uses udp for sip instead of tcp).
Even talking to other Asterisk boxen.
My qualifications for making this claim are all over SCM history for
various asterisk modules / api wrappers, and in the 13 over 200 agent
call centers I have helped set up.
