What's to contend with FreeBSD that isn't worse that a non-standard
Linux environment? :P

This makes using subversion sound like not such a bad idea. Each box
would be responsible for the checkout and execution - even the per-box
scripts could be kept in the repo, so those could be updated on the
fly as well.

I still think mounting an fs is a bad idea, but I am not as familiar
with the situation as you.
