Never said that Samba 4 didn't work, ever. Never said that GPOs don't
work either, not once. The statement was to the effect that using
Samba 4 in a PDC with GPO role in a production and mission critical
environment would not be wise. In doesn't take the Hubble Telescope to
see the gulf of difference between the two.

"...that isn't progressive enough..." There is the problem. If that
is your response to what I do, you don't understand the job of
system/network administrator. The fact is that when you have business
with networks and systems that can cost companies BIG-$$$/hr of
downtime, overly progressive is a huge problem. At my current job,
I've already seen overly progressive bring down major systems twice.

Secondly, "progressive enough" is purely personal preference. Cutting
edge might work on your personal website or in your home LAN, but your
"progressive enough" may not fit into a large corporate environment.

As to your statement about technology being more "transparent and
augmentative to every day life", I have a nice long project list of
things that make our network better and more reliable that we are
working on. I've got several items on there that make the users of
the lives easier.

The question I have to ask though, what makes you think that it is my
duty to "make technology more transparent and augmentative to every day
life"? You make these statements but provide no basis for these
statements on what I should be doing. On what do you base the assertion
that it is my duty to make "technology more transparent and augmentative"?

Dennis, you obviously misunderstood the statement about putting users on
alpha or beta code, so forget it. Not going to hash it out. I've
had my sour experience with companies that do it and hence don't approve
of vendors giving customers alpha or beta quality software to use in
production environments. Leave it at that.

I'd just ask that you walk in a network or system admin's shoes before
chiding any of them for not being "progressive enough."
