Actually, that's less so for Android in my experience. All contacts
are in my Gmail account, so that's restored easily. A lot of apps
store data on an SD card, and with Android 2.x you can store apps
themselves on the SD card.
I also have an app to automatically back up my text messages to Gmail,
which is pretty handy.
