I put ubuntu on an old IBM Thinkpad a couple years ago. As Petri said, video may cause problems. Before you install any distro, be sure to google it with the exact model of your laptop. Somebody somewhere already has a fix for the video.

I suppose any modern distro would do.
The problem is the video card capabilities, which I think nvidia should be able to handle just fine.

I have even lower end machine which appears to be doing fine, except the CPU fan failed. Gotta try to replace it some day. The distro I'm running in it is Qimo (Linux distro targeted for children, and it's based on ubuntu)

Yup. Victor needs a computer.

Hey gang,

I've got an old P4 3GHz Dell machine with a half gig of RAM. Video card is NVIDIA, wireless is some Broadcom that works. Not sure right now if the memory is maxxed out.

Given this low-end hardware, what modern distro would you put on this if your primary goal is watching YouTube videos?
