I rent my modem (non-wifi Cisco modem, docsis 3) and have no issues whatsoever with speed.

Of course when you're working off of a 2G/3G tether, uVerse seems lightning fast in comparison.

I have the 25Mbit line.

So the 'buy it yourself' is probably a ego-myth.

Thanks for the suggestion. The specs for the old one is technically within range, but the new one is more reliable, and can do so across more channels.

Though reading the reviews, I should beware of the black one...

Cox isn't a fickler when you get your own is it?

Ron
I ran the test.  I think I have a Premium account with Cox.
On the test, Dnload speed is 32.66 Mbps, Upload 2.77 Mbps.
Does this sound correct?

http://www.speedtest.net/ seems to be the "standard" measurement, at least in the US.

Do you have a program that tests the network speed (upload/download)?
if so, what is the name?

The service is *very* reliable; I haven't had an outage in 3-4 months.  "Back in the day", speeds fluctuated between 20-30Mbps depending upon time of day, with evenings being the slowest.  (I haven't yet done an evening speed test on the upgraded service.)

Ron,

How reliable is Cox?  We're supposed to get 30 with AT&T but the only time that ever happens is for a brief period after I spend an hour on the phone with AT&T support.  Getting ready to ditch them and might pay for extra speed if its regularly available.

Cox told me they would supply me with a new modem for free.
