Install package "hdparm". (I'm at v4.5-1.2)
That will create /etc/init.d/hwtools & /etc/rcS.d/S60hwtools.
You can then edit /etc/init.d/hwtools to run hdparm in any way you
see fit.
However, on my system, the hdparm command is commented out, but
I still use DMA. Maybe it's programmed into my chipset's kernel
"driver"...
