That's why I said that "uname -r" will tell you which kernel you're
running.

And if you don't know whether the cd-rw is hda, hdb, hdc or hdd,
then you tell us which IDE cable that it's plugged into, and
whether it's the "master" or "slave" device.

Lacking that... Run
dmesg | gzip > dmesg.gz

And the email me the file.
