true. and that was part of my motivation for trying gentoo. 3d stuff and
messing around with bleeding edge mplayer builds.

I should also mention to folks that Gentoo support is really really
good. the forums at forums.gentoo.org have a wealth of useful tips
and solutions to general linux problems.
