TV sets are quite similar in some respects to computer monitors. It sounds like there may be something loose in either your picture tube (probably requiring a new one) or in the high voltage power supply. A friend's monitor behaves similarly and I keep telling him he needs a new one . . .

Subject: [Nolug] off-topic post (TV)

Does anyone know someone that repairs televisions? My tv is really messed up. It keeps flashing vertical, thick, black lines. Sometimes the whole screen is nearly black. But then, it will be fine for a while. And sometimes the right half of the screen will flash. Sometimes it gets worse when it’s on longer and sometimes it gets better when it’s on longer. I swear it looks almost random. I’ve called a few places and they act like they’ve never heard of such behavior from a tv which doesn’t make me feel any better about taking it there.

Can anyone recommend someone who will do good work and not stick it to me?
