I think most of the atmosphere, working with morons, working with nice
people, smart people it's there in gov. work and private industry.

In my limited experience the big difference between the two is
salary and stress.

Want more salary and stress, work for private industry.

Want less salary and stress, work for gov.(or a university,
or other state agency.)

I don't want to fool anyone, this position doesn't pay close
to what any of you think it should. But then again, because of the
low salary that no one wanted, I was
hired fresh out of college I was blown away with this same
salary (i did work for the department for 3 years as a student
worked, so they did know me.). I never
thought I would have had a starting salary that
high.I felt like I did a great thing getting this job,
and I still do. I have had much more opportunity in this job
than I would have had for any "industry" job.

I get to work on 5-6 different systems. I don't think I would have that
opportunity in an "industry" job. I enjoy this variety, but
sometimes it get overwhelming.

State work (this one in paricular) offers low salary but high
opportunity. I garuntee that what you put into this position
you will gain in experience. But it will be something that you
will have to be highly motivated to do.
