Chris,
I really can't speak to the legal issue and if you really have a
legal issue here you should consult a lawyer. I can understand that you
may be frustrated by your current employer, but what, really, would be
gained by "screwing" them? I would think long and hard before I did
anything to burn any bridges. Regardless of what your employer has
done, _you_ are probably better served by taking the high road out.

Think about this. Are you going to walk into your next interview
bragging about how you screwed your stupid former employer? Can you put
that on a resume? And you might be surprised at how people outside the
company perceive your former employer -- sullying their reputation is
risky at best. In short, no potential new employer really cares about
how badly your former employer sucks, they care about how good you are
and what you can do for them.

And yes, you may lose source code. But they can't take away the
results. There's nothing wrong with exclaiming on your resume and in
interviews what you accomplished, how you did it and how you saved/made
your employer $dollars due to your personal efforts. That's what your
future employers want to here and that's what you can take away from
this experience.
