Some of the things you need to do is make yourself into an LLC, or Inc
(preferably an S-corp or C-corp ... check with a CPA or Atty about the
benefits of one over the other. To form one, you just need to goto
the IRS site first and get a business tax ID (doesn't cost anything,
but you need to know what type of business you are making) then goto
the La. Secretary of State website's commercial division and download
the appropriate forms. Depending on the business type, it will cost
somewhere around $75, then a yearly renewal fee.

Oh, you also want to make sure that you can do this with your current
employer and also that it doesn't present any conflict of interest
with them. Some companies make you sign a paper stating that you are
doing business outside of your normal work and make you state the
nature of the business to avoid any interest conflicts before they OK
it.
