Just as an side not there are 2 other implementations of 802.11,
802.11 vanilla and 802.11a - the a spec has really just started to come
around as of late, but 802.11 has aparently been around for some time. There
was an article about it last week or so on /. with some impressive figures,
dont know about the cost comparisson on any of these but it might be worth
your time to check out before you write your cheque out.

can't seem to find a 802.11a vendor that's reasonably priced.:-( 802.11b
at 11mb/s should work fine.
here's the "kit" i'm lookin at rite now:
Lucent ORINOCO PCI Adapter
PCI Wireless Adapter $68.57
Lucent ORiNOCO World PC Card - Silver
IEEE 802.11b high rate standard, 11Mb/s wireless PC card , 64-bit key
encryption $96.25
HG2424G 24 dBiHeavy Duty Grid Antenna $129.95
..the whole burrito should run less than $300. I've got about 30ft
clearance at the southwest corner of City Park, which should cover
Lakeview to the west, and good parts of Mid-City to the south.
