Hi.

One of my boxes boots off of /dev/hda1. /boot is on that
partition along with /usr, /bin, /etc, etc...

I'd like to boot off of /dev/hda6 instead. I know that I'd
have to do these steps:
- - mkdir /boot2
- - cp -R /boot/* /boot2
- - modify /etc/lilo.conf to reference /boot2 & /dev/hda6 instead
  of /boot & /dev/hda1
- - in fdisk, set /dev/hda6 as the boot partition
- - run lilo

Am I missing anything fundamental?

$ lilo -V
LILO version 21.5
$ fdisk /dev/hda

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/hda: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 29777 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 7111 3583912+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda2 7112 29777 11423664 85 Linux extended
/dev/hda5 7112 7618 255496+ 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda6 7619 7659 20632+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda7 7660 14941 3670096+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda8 14942 29777 7477312+ 83 Linux

Thanks

/boot needs to be in the first 1024 cylinders (of hda1) to work (I
think). Your kernel is there. I know any time (on extremely large
drives) that you don't make a 50M boot (or thereabouts) the thing simply
won't boot because all the files LILO tries to go and load aren't where
she expects them to be. I never got a straight answer on whether it was
/boot 's fault or whether what LILO was trying to load immediately
*following* the kernel, but from what I've been told by RedHat support,
/boot needs to be in the first 1024 on the first disk.
