Neat - I tested out autossh, and it works well, too; though I had to set up passwordless auth for a couple of hosts that seem to not like the keep alive feature autossh provdes.

*C-a is probably the "meta" key; which in the the .screenrc I sent you was "ctrl-f". So to detach you'd:

1. press "ctrl-f" at the same time, then release
2. hit lowercase "d"

(just tried that and it worked for me)

It takes some getting used to, but once you do it's pretty mindless.

Scrolling the window is a pain in the arse, and I simply don't use it - though I know it can be done.
