The simplest way by far is via ethernet. If you're stuck with the
USB alcatel, a little linksys router in between your PC and the modem
would be the second simplest method. You'd be connecting to that
device via ethernet with your linux box. As you've observed,
installing and running with the alcatel drivers is signficantly more
involved.

Alcatel is a French modem, and Linux apparently is more popular in Europe than here at this time. I keep thinking someone will bring out a simple way to connect.

I programmed MS Access for several years in the Silicon Valley and have moved my personal databases to Delphi and have a copy of Kylix to migrate to when I get the ADSL up under Linux and get either PostgreSQL or MySQL to work for me. At any rate, whatever will let me most easily connect a single machine thru FastAccess is what I'm looking for. I have the SpeedTouch USB modem (external) supplied by BellSouth.
