I suggest that if you feel you have to monitor two email accounts
constantly, this is a problem you create for yourself.

But you said “web-based” accounts. You know you can read gmail in a
normal mail reader, right?

Also, make sure people know that you don't constantly monitor your
email.

Or, if you *must* respond to some email quickly, filter out
those particular senders and make sure you're alerted only for them.

But otherwise, disable pop-ups and alerts. Unless its a job
requirement, they'll sap you of productivity.

The default mail app on my Android phone does threads. And I've turned
off alerts for new mail since, really, that's what SMS is for.

I've made it pretty clear to people: if you want my attention right now,
use a phone, sms or IM. But I don't respond to email instantaneously.

So, to sum up: I'd suggest that you look at your work flow. Email is
built for discussions, not instantaneous delivery & response.

Mark.
