Ron, I'm getting CentOS-6.3-i386-bin.iso now. ________________________________ From: Ron Johnson <ron.l.johnson@cox.net> To: nolug@nolug.org Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 9:45 PM Subject: Re: [Nolug] playing a movie You can get Red Hat certified, but not Ubuntu. What's the purpose of these certifications?  Professional development? If so, install Centos (beer-free version of Red Hat).  It'll wipe out Ubuntu for you. A suggestion: do as much as possible from the CLI, aka "bash".  Since you've been around from 1980, you must have used MS-DOS.  bash is to MS-DOS as a thermonuclear bomb is to a firecracker.  And similarly as complicated. Buy a book or two on RH administration and bash.  I like "Learning the bash shell".  http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596009656.do  I only have the 2nd ed from 1998, but it's still useful. It'll take time.  At first your head will be swimming and you'll be doing everything from the GUI, but keep at it, and things will eventually come into focus. Google *is* your friend.  It'll just take time to figure out what questions to ask. Ask questions smartly: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html On 07/10/2012 09:05 PM, Randy Wild wrote: > Certifications: A+, Network +, MCDST Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician, MCSA Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, IC3 Computer Literacy, CTTIE Computer Technician Maintenance from state of Louisiana, Board of Education, teaching certificate. > > Experience: PC Tech, 3 years, (Windows-based), Help Desk Supervisor, 1 or 2 years (Windows-based), > Taught computers at high school level, 8 years.  Help Desk Representative, 2 years. > Taught A+ as adjunct professor at Nunez Community College, 1 semester. > > In the computer field for 32 years. > > Goals: Would like to get Linux certified, or more specifically, Ubuntu certified. > > > > ________________________________ >  From: Ron Johnson <ron.l.johnson@cox.net> > To: nolug@nolug.org > Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 8:23 PM > Subject: Re: [Nolug] playing a movie > > The command line interface.  I.e., Linux's version of the DOS Command Prompt window. > > To help use help you: plz tell us how much computer experience you have, and on what platform (Windows or Mac). > > Thanks, > Ron > > On 07/10/2012 08:13 PM, Randy Wild wrote: >> what is CLI? >> >> Where can I find video software for Ubuntu? >> -- "There is usually only a limited amount of damage that can be done by dull or stupid people.
