hey will,

you compiled it from source? maybe you still got mandrake rpms hanging
around? do 'which openssl' to see where you're running it from. also
check the version of your ssl libraries...

ls -l /usr/lib/libssl* and ls -l /usr/lib/libcrypto*

i've also seen the libraries located in /lib or /usr/local/lib... better
check all those spots.
