[Nolug] Cable vs DSL in New Orleans

I wanted to start a new thread because the Cox thread is getting a little
hostile. I'm moving to the New Orleans area (specifically the Irish
Channel area) really soon and I'm not sure whether I should go with Cox or
a DSL provider. I've been through dslreports but a lot of the DSL places
on there have gone out of business.

I'm looking to get information about throughput at off times and peak
times, latency information, and how well support is handled. I worked for
a local ISP doing tech support and DSL installation when it became
available here in Shreveport so I definitely know the advantages of a
smaller company's support. I'm mainly looking at throughput and latency.
Also, all of my mail and web hosting is done off site and I ssh into the
box to use pine so I'm not concerned about the port blocking.

I have all the DSL equipment if I chose to go that route, but with Cable
what type of equipment do I need for Cox? I was thinking about going with
a Cisco uBR924. Anything I should stay away from?

Oh and I am going to need a static IP. Is that available from Cox?

Thanks...

John
(who is still looking for a job in New Orleans)
