I got my Network+ certification last Christmas Holiday's. I want to
say it was $190. I'm in the same boat as the person who started
this. My thought was, "why not get the certification?" If your
resume is empty (experience and degree), then what other option do
you have?

The test is really not that hard. I bought the "Passport Network+"
book for like $40. I read that over a three day period. The day
before the test I went to Barnes & Nobles and went through the
questions in the back of the books. (Umm, I didn't say that) It more
than prepared me for the test. The other thing, if you are
considering taking the test, go to the website and download what is
on the test. The test does cover a lot of platforms. How many
people know AppleTalk as well as SMB?
