Periodically, you need to unplug a UPS and let it die.
This helps prevent the battery from developing a 'memory'.
It doesn't help much if you have critical systems plugged into it, but its
better to have a planned outage than a "Oh, guess what, the UPS battery is
dead." situation.

My suggestion is to charge and drain the UPS several times then check to see
if it holds a charge.
What I do is unplug the UPS and time how long it takes to get to 20% with
the equipment I have running through it.
If I notice a decrease in time do the charge and drain procedure. (note:
don't do this if a hurricane is comming)
