Hi Simon.
I don't know of any ISP's who can supply ADSL unless you have POTS (Plain Old
Telephone Service) to start with. Covad did for a while, but I think that it
was just for businesses and I don't believe that they offer it any more.
Btw - There are forms of DSL other than ADSL, in particular SDSL. ADSL was
designed to ride on a POTS line. The others weren't, in general. ADSL was
designed to mass marketed thus it is strives for the lowest possible price,
and this is what dictated ridding on existing voice lines. There is no
technical problem with putting ADSL on a "dry pair" (no voice service) but it
goes against the pricing model thus generally isn't done. I wish it were,
because not everyone has POTS service, but I'm only a small fish. :-)
You can get SDSL without a POTS line, but you will pay lots more for it
generally.

I used to have webdsi before Katrina. I imagine they're back up and running
now. Pretty good price for static I.P.

When I get back to New Orleans, I'm hoping to get DSL without a land line.
Last time I talked to webdsi, they said Bellsouth wasn't set up to do that
yet. Anyone know if anyone in NOLA can do DSL without a landline? Otherwise
I may end up with cable.
