As far as I know, if you have a lease, the only way to really enforce it when the property is being sold is to record it with the Mortgage & Conveyance office of your parish. This won't help Chris with his problem, but maybe some of his neighbors could use the tip. Call 364-2900 and ask for the Mortgage & Conveyance office. In Orleans, you've gotta call the Recorder of Conveyances at 670-7022, but since it's Orleans the process is a little bit more complicated and probably costs more.
Otherwise, it's just a crappy thing that landlords can do. I can't think of a way to stop the sale, or enforce month-to-month leases.
