Jonathan,
Thank you for that information. I have received this tip from others in the
past 12 hours and I did pass it along to my neighbors tonight at a meeting
we held here at the building. We are in Jefferson Parish and I believe the
Mortgage and Conveyance office is in Gretna.

As far as I know, if you have a lease, the only way to really enforce it
when the property is being sold is to record it with the Mortgage &
Conveyance office of your parish. This won't help Chris with his problem,
but maybe some of his neighbors could use the tip. Call 364-2900 and ask
for the Mortgage & Conveyance office. In Orleans, you've gotta call the
Recorder of Conveyances at 670-7022, but since it's Orleans the process is a
little bit more complicated and probably costs more.
Otherwise, it's just a crappy thing that landlords can do. I can't think of
a way to stop the sale, or enforce month-to-month leases.

I just got a letter that I am being kicked out of my apartment. I guess so a
new owner can come in charge double the rent. I know this is not even
remotely Linux related but I need help. I put a link to my blog with a much
more detailed description of what happened. Any way you can help, either
with knowledge of a place to rent or help in getting this story out, would
be greatly appreciated.
