We are using sendmail with MIMEDefang + Spamassassin + ClamAV
(http://clamav.elektrapro.com) on Redhat advanced server with a Novell
eDirectory LDAP backend (also on Linux). Everything but eDir is
opensource. MIMEDefang is the key, it has explicit support for
Spamassassin and ClamAV, and well as a load of other commercial and
non-commercial virus scanners. If anything, look at the list of virus
scanners that MIMEDefang supports, it's pretty impressive.
The ClamAV db was dormant for a while, but recently since BugBear it's
been getting updated almost daily. It's been pretty good at stopping
virii. We still block dangerous attachment extensions though, and don't
use Outlook very much, so that helps a lot also.
