What about using a voice recognition program (such as Dragon naturally
speaking)with microphone pickups placed in strategic places to initiate
program sequinces. For example 'Lights' brings up the lights module and
'on' sets the status variable.

This way seperate voice/web controls could be integrated into one main
control system. Then any physical system that can be computer controled can
be manipulated into an automation system (with creative programming).
for example 'VCR' 'Record' '45' '9:30' 'stop' '10:30' 'execute'
You could even call your house and leave instructions on answer machine,
assuming it records audibly.
A verbal access code could be added such as 'Alfred lights off' 'Alfred
radio on' 'Alfred radio volume up' etc.

I guess we would have to have apliances with network ports. RS232 wireing
would be very expensive.
Hey, anybody remember a print server that would print through local
electrical wireing?
I looked into it say 5 years ago, but don't recall much about it.

Nah, X10 is pretty much crap in the home automation arena. Maybe if
I wanted to do a few small things I might use X10. I've seen
other products for full home automation and they are very expensive.
One even included voice commands. walk into a room and say
"Lights On" and they come on. That's some cool home automation.

Too bad the products are way to expensive for the average home
owner. X10 will have to suffice for now, but it's not the answer.
