It has been a few years since I used FBSD, but raw Debian isn't that
different when it comes to setting up printers and such.

In short, it's a pain.

However, Ubuntu has blown me away with its simplicity. I set it up to
use a printer attached to a co-worker's laptop with just a few clicks of
the mouse. Sharing files is as easy as it is on Windows. (I'm sure
Fedora Core is similar, but I haven't tried it.)

And typing up papers? I'm wondering why OpenOffice or (if that's too
big) Abiword doesn't do what you need.
